Barrels and barriques: the noble art of ageing in wood.

Making wine also means knowing how to wait: crushing, decanting and racking are not enough. We must wait for the wine to mature and reach its full potential. Indeed, there are expressions that, like our Primocapo, take time to become protagonists of a unique sensory experience, through a long journey that allows them to fully develop the organoleptic characteristics that make them so special.

The dialogue with the wood in barrels and barriques is fundamental, a synergy that enriches the wine with seductive aromas and scents. Over this time, wood releases its characteristics into the wine, a distinctive sign the more intense the younger the barrel. In this path towards quality, an important aspect of ageing in wood is given by the presence of pores and micro-pores on the surface of the barrel, which provide constant aeration, helping the wine to stabilise, making it evolve and pre4pare it for the ageing phase in the bottle.

A curiosity about the conservation of wine in barrels? The first to use them were the Celts and it is said that their expertise in working with wood made them truly unbeatable.

This way, the cellar becomes a place of dreams and great expectations for the future, where the wines of the Masseria Capoforte rest, slowly perfecting themselves with a promise of authentic emotions. A journey sometimes lasting over 18 months, before further rest in the bottle: it happens to Primocapo, the red champion of the Masseria Capoforte that at the "XVIII International Enological Competition Città del Vino" in Frascati has won the Gold Medal among 1,250 wines in competition and 500 Italian and foreign producers.

A new success that fills us with pride and confirms the excellent quality of Capoforte wines, which are followed step by step with wisdom and dedication.
