Primocapo Primitive Single Vineyard 2013. Tasting a success.

If Primitivo is undeniably one of the best known expressions of Salento, then Primocapo is superlative. It is the authentic expression of a land where each ray of sun, each drop of water, breeze or touch is transformed into a unique and one-of-a-kind wine. It was presented at Vinitaly where it enjoyed extraordinary success. Let’s taste it together.
Primocapo Primitivo Single Vineyard 2013 is the pride and joy of the Masseria Capoforte and it goes without saying that it is the valued result of unique and particularly memorable harvests which are never the same. When the tasting it, one should take into account that the exceptionally sunny climate of this region usually gives the grapes a fairly high quantity of sugar. It is precisely the ripening and the intense action of the sun's rays which can sometimes give the Primitivo mature aromas and flavours which are often reminiscent of jam, a characteristic which comes to the fore in the hottest years. These climatic conditions call for thorough and meticulous vine-growing procedures and it is only thanks to the skill and delicacy with which they are performed that a truly balanced Primitivo of great character and quality like the Primocapo can be produced.
Obtained from rich grapes with very low yields per hectare, Primocapo 2013 features elements which give it bold tones of intense red. The evolution of  the colour is typical of red wines, showing clear shades of deep ruby which, after the long ageing process in oak barrels, then turns a slightly deeper shade.
